Now, we've heard of bubble baths and baths full of epsom salts and even dead sea salts... but have you heard of a tea bath? Herbal teas not only have amazing benefits for your internal body, but also for your external body: your skin! Next time you run yourself a hot steamy bath, try turning it into a Tea Bath.
How to Prepare a Tea Bath:
Start by brewing a strong cup of tea on the stove. Simmer one tablespoon of herbal tea in 2 cups of water on the stovetop for 8-10 minutes. Safely strain the tea water.
(This is a decoction: simmered teas that are perfect for extracting the properties of hard roots, dried berries, barks, and seeds. They are much stronger in flavour than herbal infusions and also more concentrated)
Our favourite tea to use for Tea Baths is Nirvana, an organic Lemongrass Chamomile blend from Misty Mountain Tea located in Toronto, Ontario. It's refreshing and light with hints of lemon, apple, and chamomile.
You can use any herbal tea you want though! Our Tea of the Month at The Healing Muse Apothecary is a deep blue tea named Atlantis. Next, to safely add essential oils like Frankincense to this tea bath blend, add 5 drops of Frankincense (or your favourite blend of oils) to 1 tablespoon of honey and mix into the tea decoction.
Run your bath as usual and pour your tea decoction in!
To soften and condition the bath water even more, add 2 tablespoons of baking soda and 1/2 cup of Epsom Salts (or Dead Sea Salts).
